Texas’ most active city has plenty of fun events for all ages during the month of June.
From music to action sports to festivals, Austinites are in for a fun and busy June. So hold onto your seat as you read about the upcoming events this splendid city has to offer.
For the music lovers out there, 93.3 KGSR is hosting Blues on the Green at Zilker Park throughout the summer. Every other Wednesday, Zilker Park will be covered in blankets, coolers, and lawn chairs as families and friends enjoy an evening listening to up and coming bands for FREE. KGSR is also hosting the music series Unplugged at the Grove every Thursday at Shady Grove. Attendees can listen to live bands while enjoying some of Austin’s most delicious food and specialty drinks.
The action-seeking individuals must look no further – the 2014 Summer X Games are among us! The games begin Thursday, June 6 and last through the weekend. The world’s best skateboarders, BMXers, and Moto Xers will be competing for not only the gold medal but claiming rights as well. If the extreme tricks and the fast speeds make you too nervous to watch, there are still plenty of events to keep you busy. Bands such as Pretty Lights and Slightly Stoopid and rappers Kanye West and Mac Miller will be performing throughout the weekend. The Games are a family friendly affair, offering a playground with obstacle courses, hydra tag, and bungee jumping. For more information on the bands, schedule, and tickets to the events, visit http://xgamesaustin.com.
If the X Games give you an urge to try out an action sport, Quest ATX, a full-size cable wakepark, is the place to go. Located close to Circuit of the Americas, the wakeboarding facility covers 130 acres. Those looking to shred the wake can buy 2hr, 4hr, and all day passes. The park is open to all levels, so beginners need not worry! The staff offers wakeboarding lessons for individuals and small groups.
During the month of June the park is open Monday – Friday from 12pm – Dark and Saturday from 10am – Dark. Visit http://questatx.com for more information on Quest ATX.
For anyone interested in the past, present, and future of television, the ATX Television Festival is the place to go. From June 6 – June 8, television enthusiasts are given the chance to meet with showrunners, directors, writers, actors, studio executives, and music supervisors. Weekend passes and day passes are available. For more information on the festival, visit http://www.atxfestival.com.
There is no better way to toast to the city of Austin than to attend the Keep Austin Weird Festival and 5K.
On June 28th, Austinites have the chance to listen to live music, enjoy local food, run a 5k, participate in a wacky costume contest, and donate to the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. Talk about a packed day! The festival highlights the creativity and weirdness of the community of Austin and is open to all ages. Embrace your weirdness and visit http://keepaustinweirdfest.com for more information.
Austinites have much to look forward to during the month of June. So forget the heat and round up your friends and family to experience all that Austin has to offer.
